Shawn Mullins

I've been listening to Shawn Mullins CD Soul's Core and I really like it. Can anyone recommend another of his CDs? I'm not sure which one to buy next.

So you like it ST? I am glad.
He's such a sweetie. I had the good fortune to go on tour with Shawn n band for a minute back then. He was on a big run opening for Chris Issak. A great combo. And a lotta fun! Chris drew a big ole tatoo with a sharpie on my arm! I felt so silly trying to "not wash it" for days n days! I am a goofie fan!
It's so great that Shawn sings background vocals on a couple of Moanin's new songs. They, too, make great music together.

Maybe he'll make an appearance at one of Moanin's shows! That would be awesome!

Shawn Mullins has a new CD coming out on Valentine's Day. You can listen to a new song called "Beautiful Wreck" on MySpace. I really like it...but then again, I like all of his songs. Enjoy!

"beautiful wreck"!!!! that's not really a new song, just had not been released. he played it all over the IG west coast tour last year, and FARGAHAR and i both loved it so much and kept on requesting it. we bugged him about the fact that it wasn't on a CD.

i will be buying the new shawn mullins CD. shawn is one of my fave artists.

xoxo

And no doubt, that's why he put it on the CD. Just for FARGAHAR and SPIKE!

I love the line:

"There's a tavern on the corner called the Milkyway and you look so at home there, it makes me afraid."

I didn't know the song wasn't new. But to me, all of his stuff is new as I only discovered him a few months ago. Remember when someone posted a picture of IG and Pink at Orphan Studio? Well, I started looking at the Orphan Studio site and it has the S. Mullins song "Lullaby" on it. I didn't think I knew who S. Mullins was until I heard that song and realized that I know that song! I love that song! I never knew he was the guy that sang it. Anyway, I could listen to him sing all day. I bought his Souls Core CD for my Dad for Xmas. Gotta spread the word when you find good music, right?

Beautiful Wreck!

What an awesome song!
He played it at Eddies when he, Michelle and Ellis did the songwriters night. Michelle sings backing vocals on the record...and you can really hear her a lot. Their voices are great compliments to eachother.

Shawn will be in Boulder next week!

Did MM sing backups on "Beautiful Wreck" or just other songs on the record?

I can hear her on "Beautiful Wreck", now that you mention it. When she sings with IG, I never, ever hear her. Which I guess just means she's doing a good job backing up A & E...all those girl voices blending together. Figures I'd find a song on MySpace that I like and she'd be the backup singer. Oh the irony!

I have hearted Shawn for awhile.

I saw him live up here in Seattle. (Front row baby!!!)

And I requested Beautiful Wreck. He played it for me.....

Actually that song has totally been in my head for a long time and I think I will hop over to MySpace to hear it again as I am sitting in the Seattle Tacoma International Airport bored out of my gourd.

FARG - I think I saw a cute picture of you on MySpace - at least I think it's you.

FOR SHAWN MULLINS FANS:

Radio stations are starting to add "Beautiful Wreck" to their playlists. Here's a list of stations and their websites so you can request it.

Spread the word of Indie music.

I spent my lunchtime with Shawn Mullins today!

Well...so did the rest of Philadelphia. He performed at World Cafe Live for a "free at noon" live WXPN radio broadcast. Shawn and his band performed a great set of songs. He started out with an old one ("Ballad of Billy Jo McKay") and sang a few new ones ("Blue As You", "Beautiful Wreck", and "Solitaire" straight into "House of the Rising Sun".) He also sang "Shimmer" and "Lullaby". He said some funny stuff and explained how he made his new record in an "old school" kind of way without focusing on computers - just playing music.

I was sitting right in front of the keyboardist, who also sang back-up and played the mandolin and the guitar. I kept thinking - who is this great musician? Then Shawn introduced him. It was Clay Cook. I've read tons of stuff about Clay Cook and his talents. It's all true. He's amazing! (Not to minimize Shawn's talents in anyway, of course.)

BTW - Clay Cook is a cutie with a great smile. I liked him - can you tell?!

Here are pictures from the show.

Enjoy!

I just got back for seeing Shawn at E-town, Boulder Colorado....
He was so great! As usual.
E-town is fun because the musical artists play several songs and they also get interviewed.( and it's 2 minutes from my house!) Shawn was his usual funny and charming self...great stories to tell.
He played:
Beautiful Wreck, Lonesome, Shimmer, Lullaby, and ended the show with House of the Rising Sun.
BR549, a country band from Nashville, was the other musical guest and played with him on HotRS...
And that band was a hoot! Old style country like Ferron Young....check em out!

Was at another great Shawn show last week in Denver at the Blue Bird.
His new record is really good and a must have..."9th Ward Picking Parlor"...named for the studio in New Orleans where he recorded the record.

It was his friend's place and it got devastated by the flood. That's why he chose to honor it by naming the record after it.

Clay Cook opened for him...Clay is another adorable southern boy you just can't help but love. And a great guitar player.

The audience was so respectful and quiet. You can really tell that they loved him and didn't want to miss a single "signature Shawn note"...deep, full and so heartfelt.
It's really so great when audiences show their respect by being quiet. Musicians have to work xtra hard when it's otherwise!

Beautiful Wreck is still my new favorite Shawn song!
y'all check out the cd!
