Hey OP: since you're new here you won't know that by and large, posters here are very sensitive about protecting Amy and Emily's privacy and don't like to discuss their private lives. (Although many of them somehow know a lot about their private lives.

A+E are public figures and I think it's totally natural to be curious about this stuff, and not harmful when the questions come from a place of well-wishing, as yours did. I think just about everyone here disagrees with me though. Oh well.

Last I heard was that Emily's dating someone named Tristan. Could be wrong, but that's what I heard.

GS: “Fleet of Hope” has an aquatic theme. But there’s also a sadness to it, which also comes through on “Love of Our Lives.”

ES: My songs are a bit world-weary on this record, I think, more so than any other group of songs on any other record for me. It was my state of mind when I was writing. We were still in the throes of the Bush administration. I mean, how fucking depressing is that? It was hard to have hope politically. All my friends broke up. I came out of a long-term relationship, so there was a lot of sadness, interpersonally.

A conundrum I've always found interesting myself but oh well. I don't disagree with you. Again, smaller scale, but I field a lot a personal questions. I answer what I feel comfortable answering, but I can't get the ass at people wanting to ask when I'm the one that put myself in that position to begin with.

From the fan side though, I've probably bought as many IG albums as I've read articles. Soooo.... not a lot of article reading. It's not what I'm after. As long as they continue to write and continue to play and it all touches me in some way, that's what matters to me. I don't know that it would bring me a deeper connection to the music if I could name all their dogs, tell you about their childhood, or name their last 4 girlfriends. Not what works for me. Maybe it's because they're still here with us. Because I'm WAY different about the Beatles and Zepplin, but exactly the same about RHCP. Whatever.

I should add that I do think it's a good thing that Meo et al don't want to be running a site that encourages "sharing" because it often leads to rumors and as fans, we shouldn't want to encourage that. Hell, as people we shouldn't want to encourage that.

*shrug* I enjoy knowing who they are as people, so I read/watch/listen to all the interviews I can get my hands on. As a writer myself, I'm fascinated by how personal experience leads to art, which of course means hearing about the artists' lives.

I'm as anti-internet-gossip as the next person (take that for whatever it's worth), but I see no harm in bringing up something like Emily's breakup in a public forum, when she herself has mentioned it in public interviews. It's one thing to share things that they might want kept private, but if they have offered up stories about their lives for the public media, then I think it's perfectly okay to share what they've said.

Now will someone help me off this soapbox?

I hope no one thinks I'm passing judgment. I'm not immune to gossip (or just wanting real info) about celebs. I read everything I can get my hands on about Brad and Angie. (It's the kids.) I've just never much wanted to with IG. I just wanna listen and leave it at that. And when I do seek info, it's "what's going on with Honor the Earth" or "What's happening at Daemon."

I really couldn't even tell you why. It's just the way it is with them.

This really is interesting. With me it's exactly the opposite. Random celebrities, I pretty much want to stay out of their lives as much as they are out of mine. With A+E (and other people who I feel have had some effect on who I am as a person), I want to learn everything -- what made them who they are, their influences and passions and histories and hopes and dreams and pets' names. It helps me appreciate the music more if I know where the person's coming from and who they are. Also, I'm naturally kinda nosy.

But you know, Amy did consent to a bedroom article written by her ex-girlfriend which alluded to masturbation... so it's not like they're these precious, rarefied, not-to-spoken-about delicate flowers. Whenever people get !personally offended! about discussing A+E's personal lives, it's as if the offended party is a friend of Amy's and is trying to protect her... but since they're probably not, that's even more creepy.

Anyway, that's not you, mamablue. But yours is an interesting take. Always good to read your insights. Different strokes, etc.

Funny...I guess I'm a visual person. When I hear their music and it's about love or heartbreak...I like to put faces along with the lyrics. Weird, huh? I do the same thing when I read books...and then they make a crappy movie and pick actors that look NOTHING like the people in my head and then I'm back to therapy

Admittedly, the bedroom article is one of the few I have read.

IZZY- I'm pretty visual myself, but when I hear other peoples songs, I don't want to see them going through the motions, I want it to have some impact on my history or my present so that I can see myself in the song. Although I do realize this often leads to misinterpretation (I have a song about hope and moving on that many people think is about suicide- what does that say about them?) but it's what I want to do with music.

This really has me thinking. I call IG my favorite existing musical act (the Beatles being my favorite of all time) and yet I never feel that jones for a personal connection with them outside of the lyrics, at least not until I'm at a show and Amy goes all SoC and tells stories about dead birds in the freezer and wandering St. Bernard's named Elvis, but when the moment is gone, I just want the music. Sometimes during the moment, I just want the music. I mean, the dead bird was kinda TMI, IMHO.

I should reflect a little on this.
