Lyrics from lifeblood.net (http://www.lifeblood.net/songs/athruz/pushingtheneedletoofar.html)

well i woke up this morning
grey dawn
with a prayer on my breath
see i lost something precious
and god'll save me
from losing myself
i said i think i know what's wrong
i think i know what's wrong

now i met the queen and i understand why
why she closed the door
i'm not making excuses
but you know i've been there a few times
you know i was
i was knocking on the door
i said i think i know what's wrong
i think i know what's wrong
wrong wrong

there's a man
he lived in a house
had a family of five
well he blew up the windows and the doors
he said "i just couldn't
i just couldn't survive"
we've all been removed
in one way or another
we don't know our families
we don't need our brothers
we're pushing the needle too far
pushing the needle too far

well if you wake up in the morning
grey dawn
there's a prayer on your breath
see maybe you lost something precious
god'll save you
from losing yourself
i said i think i know what's wrong
let me hear you
i think i know what's wrong

there's queen who closed the door
the family that lies
people who turn
the cat that has died
a boy that od's
a girl with a gun
the world on its knees
and a band on the run
you know you'd help me more
(the queen who closed the door)
by not giving in
(the family that lies)
you know you'd help me more
(people who turn)
by not giving in
(and the cat that has died)
you know you'd help me more
(a boy that od's)
by not giving in
(and a girl with a gun)
i said you'd help me more
(the world on it's knees)
now don't you give in
(and a band on the run)
ah now you'd help me more
by not giving
i said don't you dare
(not giving in no)
don't you dare
(not giving in no)
don't you dare
you'd help me more
by not giving in
i said you'd help me more
by not giving in
i said i
i think i know what's wrong
i think i know what's wrong
we're pushing the needle too far

Earns an A from me. I'd have rated this good, but then I took a harder look at the lyrics... as relevant today as when written. OK, not like it was a century ago or anything, but sometimes things are aimed at a blip in time. This doesn't seem that way.

I started writing more, but I was off on a tangent, so you'll just have to go find it in the weekly.

I like this song alot. At first, I wasn't a fan...but hearing it live and different recordings of it, I like it alot.

I love when ARay gets fired up, spazzes around and spits alot. That's a four everytime.

I gave it a 3. I like this song - always have. Ive never heard it live - but I like the recorded version and the live versions Ive heard recorded.

I think its a young angsty ARay - which is always a good time.

3,
G.

From SotS back to their independent stuff I consider classic - what's not to like?

It wouldn't be IG without this song

There are no words for how much I love this song. It's definitely in my top ten IG songs of all time - maybe even top five.

I love the song's structure - its build to the climax, then that hint of denoument.

Although I can't really describe why, it always feels reminiscent of a Blood on the Tracks-era Dylan composition.

Anyway, definitely a 5 from me.

I give it a 4. Musically, it's quite simple, which is about the only reason I don't give it a 5. Lyrically and emotionally, it's quite compelling.

I give this one a solid 4. I really like the dynamics of it....ah I'm a sucker for dynamics. We've got tempo changes, free time to straight time, and the crescendos. Everything just building...hence pushing the needle to far... but it's not like a steady build...it's kinda like a two steps forward, one step back. There's two points that are my favorite...the line "and a band on the run" and that last "you'd help me more by not giving in". Amy and Emily aren't really in synch but then they suddenly come together and nail it.

Because I LOVE all the counterpoint Amy uses in this song, the way she builds upto it, and then lets it fly for awhile before ending it, and it's so wonderful on 1200 Curfews, I give it a five.
